Exploring Houston’s Historical Black Press

Fondren Library, in collaboration with the University of North Texas Portal to Texas History, invites all communities interested in preserving Black history to Exploring Houston’s Historical Black Press which will be held on February 20th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Kyle Morrow Room of Fondren Library. There will be a networking hour just after 5 p.m. sponsored by the Rice Office of Public Affairs Multicultural Community Relations department.

The three-session symposium will highlight Houston’s Black newspapers, their place in genealogical research, and a more comprehensive understanding of their relevance to under-told Texas history. The event will serve as a platform for genealogical researchers, digital humanities practitioners, historians, preservationists, and community members to engage in conversations about their widespread impact.
